A green environment for education in Bali. There are bamboos structure everywhere and very closed to nature itself. I saw it as a very conducive environment to cultivate creativity among the school kids and at the same time teaching them to appreciate nature and sustain the environment around them.
When I first booked my ticket to Bali in October, 2010, I want the trip to be meaningful not only for vacation sake but also benefits me from architectural aspect. Thus, while I'm searching for good hotels, I had came across Green school in Bali. When I reached the campus site on my 3rd day of visits in Bali, I'm already impressed with the massive bamboo bridge that was built across the river. It was HUGE! I was told that they got the bamboos from the main land and not from local. We were toured by one of the teachers of Bali Green School. It has a massive compound.
First, we were ( there were about 15 of us including tourist from many parts of the world) brought to the water vortex power plant. This plant was their own initiative to gain electric power from the natural resources. They'd diverted the river to their site, made a deep hole and thus, created the incredible water turbulent due to the gravity. Due to the high velocity of the water vortex turbulent, they had somehow created an energy power out of it. Then, we were brought to the farm where the kids plant their own paddy rice. We were brought to many bamboo huts that act as the kids' open class concept. The kids also got to built their own class! I was fascinated by the furniture that were all made by bamboos. They were all well-designed furniture. Even, the kids' playground were made of bamboos and recycled materials. Swings were hang from the tall coconut trees. Wrestling compound was built with muddy field and they have huge field too for outdoor activities .Oh. I wished one day, there will be some kind of this project in Malaysia. And I would love to participate in the creation of the school as well as teaching creativeness to the kids. I'm definitely sure, with this kind of environment it will cultivate more creativity among us.
